WHAT IS A GRACED HOUND?

Every dog, as well as every adopter, has a unique tale to tell.  Our volunteer based foster program provides us with an in-depth knowledge of each dog’s individual personality and specific needs. This distinctive profile is then paired with our extensive screening process to select a perfect home for each animal we save.  Adopting a dog is a very emotional experience, and we are committed to treating all of our adopters with respect and kindness throughout the adoption process.

What Is a Graced Hound?

• Many of our Hounds are retrieved from the field (versus from a shelter). While this work is often more time consuming, we have an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the challenges he/she faced, and therefore are better able to assist them with their transition into a home.

• We spare no expense to ensure that each dog receives the very best professional care, and is as healthy as possible, both medically and behaviorally.

• Our Hounds are fully vetted, including dental cleaning and/or surgery, and are given preventatives (heartworm and flea & tick) monthly.
• Our Hounds have been in one or more foster homes, and the average time from rescue to placement is longer than most. We don’t rush them through to placement, but rather make sure they’re well socialized and prepared for a wider range of permanent home environments.
• We know our Hounds, both generally and each in our care. This means we are uniquely able to support the adoption process, offer suggestions for introduction into his/her new home, set realistic expectations vis-à-vis the transition, and are available to help if challenges arise at any point in the future.

Many of our Hounds find permanent homes out-of-state. We take care of the Health Certificate, and make transportation arrangements.  Whenever possible, we prefer a "foster-to-adopt" arrangement as this gives our dogs time to settle into their new home before a final commitment is made.

Please note: Hounds have a unique style of play. When we describe a dog as being “playful”, we’re saying it’s important that the dog have a play companion with a compatible style of play. Most require at least one companion, or playmate, fenced yards are always preferred, and regular "adventures" (nature walks, visits to the dog park, car trips, etc.) are highly recommended for all our Hounds.
