FOSTER A HOUND

Harlowe Hounds.jpg

Craven County NC - 14 Hounds were seized late last week, and the owner charged with animal cruelty.

Officials in this County are to be commended for enforcing the law. The dogs are safely at the shelter but now they NEED OUR HELP!

Fostering a dog WILL save a life!

Foster homes are THE critical link between the a shelter or a bad situation and a permanent home. The majority of our dogs find homes out-of-state; dogs must be out of a shelter for a minimum of 14 days before they can be transported out of state. Beyond this requirement, a foster or caretaker plays an important role in terms of assessing the dog, and identifying any issues that need to be addressed. Many hounds, especially if they've been abused or used to hunt and kept outdoors, have specific challenges we commonly see, for example a fear of loud noises, or going through doors. This is an important time to begin their transition and help them overcome any fears. Without a foster home, it would be impossible to find the right permanent home for these dogs.

These are just some of our Hounds waiting for foster homes...
